Barli Asmara was born in Bandung, March 3, 1978. Modern, edgy, eye-catching, and always focus on the details are the main characteristics of his designs.
In 2008, Barli Asmara applied handmade smocking technique for his designs. Smocking is an embroidery technique used to gather fabric so that it can stretch. Since that time, smocking became the signature of his designs. With the smocking and bows, those details is also made with the same fabric as the clothes it self, so it’s not artificial. Barli love to give something unusual to his designs. That’s the excellence in his designs. The other signature of his designs are the consistency with underlining the silhouette and layers.

After succeed with Barli's couture collections,Barli Asmara made Barli by Barli Asmara as his ready-to-wear collections label. Barli's ready-to-wear collections are very fit with Indonesian active women. He choose light material like chiffon, voile, satin, linen, and cotton for his collections but he still shows his uniqueness with simple silhouette in his collections. Barli made his ready-to-wear more sophisticated and use fewer details in order to make it different with his couture collections.

Barli Asmara’s achievements in fashion are Dewi Night (2009, 2010, dan 2011), Amica Young Talented Designer, Best Mentor from ANTV, Cleo Fashion Award, Indonesia Fashion Designer of the Year from Elle Magazine, etc. In 2011, Nadine Alexandra Dewi Ames wore Barli’s collection for Grand Final Miss Universe 2011.
