Why Amber Riley Why???

Oh I am highly upset about the Amber Riley look for the SAG awards.  First let me explain my attachment.  I love Amber Riley, I feel she one of the very few plus size entertainers that the fashion world takes seriously.  She's young, fresh, and a vibrant girl who is definitely trying to come into her own with her personal style, but I think she was set up.   I frequently check out Badgley Mischka and never have I seen them make a dress so terrible.  First, I will say what I liked.  The dress had a nice silhouette. I actually liked her hair short, it was a nice change from the long hair that she wears.  Her face and body looked so cute.  But everything else was wretched, wretched, WRETCHED! (I maybe a little angry). The fabric looked cheap and that bow was horrendous and on top of everything else they just slapped a peplum on the dress. I would probably use this dress to scrub my floors with.  Did Badgley Mischka give her some B.S. dress because she wasn't a size 0?  I'm looking though the collections and I am not seeing it anywhere, like did they sew it yesterday.  Amber you were set up!!!

I would definitely not be surprised if they go in on her on E! Fashion Police.  Sound off on this dress and let me know if I am not seeing something that everyone else is seeing.

***Blog Update:  I just finished watching Fashion Police and 3 out 4 of the panelists loved Amber's look, so I guess the yays have it.  I hate this dress, but I felt like the Fashion Police was going to be the tie breaker in the comments, which were about 50/50.  So ladies enjoy your victory and you can't say I'm not a good sport.  Good convo!

A Very Stylish Girl

As most of you know I was on Fashion Bomb a couple of days ago and there were a lot of negative comments about my “hammer pants” jumpsuit. Overall the response was good and this is definitely not backlash, but I think I finally understand what some other bloggers issues with flattery are.  About 90% of my garments I pick for style and flattery, but sometimes there are some things that I love, that I find stylish, and that I want to wear.  I think today’s outfit was kind of rebellion towards flattery.  I have wide hips, so to wear a dress that is going to make them look wider is a “no no” in many people’s opinion and really in my own opinion 90% of the time.  But at the end of the day, I bought this dress because I thought it was fashion forward not because it was going to flatter me.  As I advance in my own personal style, I am finding that sometimes style outweighs flattery.  I also don’t want my body type or my size to dictate by personal style.  I am very proud of the fact that with the strain of plus size clothing resources that I am still very much able to dictate how I want to look.

Moving on, I picked up these sunglasses for my honeymoon, but I wasn't really in love with them which goes against my rule of not buying things that I am not in love with.  I have been thinking for sometime to switch out the dark lenses for my clear prescription lenses. Eyemasters at North Park happily switched them out for me and I think these are my favorite new accessory and what is more great is that I can see too. LOL

I was so inspired by the collar area of this dress.  A small detail that I really wanted to bring attention through keeping the attention of the of the eye from the neck up.

I didn't really mean to do it, but before I knew I had channeled my inner Emily or as most of us commonly know her as the "lady decorator friend" in Breakfast at Tiffany's.  Though clearly out shined by Audrey Hepburn, I loved her style and she delivers the infamous line, I am a very stylish girl and she is!

Spring Forward

With Spring Collections floating around and Dallas' unseasonably warm weather I am ready to spring forward.  Here are the items on my wish list so far.

8.  Gap Blazer - $80 (Sizes go up to XXL)

The shoe is crazy to me, I love the heel.  Anyways, I know I'll be adding some more things as time goes.  I see that neon is really going to big this spring/summer.  I have my own personal issues with neon.  For some reason looking like a crossing guard isn't on the top of my list of things to do, but a lot things I scouted while shopping seemed like an interesting way to spark up my wardrobe.

What do you think of the whole neon trend?  Will you be incorporating it into your wardrobes this spring?

Renee Kitchen for Grazia.it

Renee Kitchen for Grazia.it.

As it is still Australia Day (just!), I thought it was fitting to post one of my Aussie Girl Next Door features for Grazia.it. Click on over to find more photographs of Renee, and her little interview.

I met up with model and student, Renee, when I was in Melbourne in November last year. With her super cute short haircut and gamine beauty, she reminds me of another of my gorgeous Girl's Next Door, Anne-Catherine.

Lovely Renee, who actually thought I was there to film her rather than take photographs (eep! If my iphone videos are anything to go by, I would be rubbish at videoing anything without massive amounts of camera shake!), welcomed me into the inner-city apartment she shares with her mama. Originally from Geelong, Renee now lives in Melbourne where she is studying Textile Design and Development at university (although this year she is hoping to transfer to Visual Merchandising) while modelling as well. Super organised (she had all of her outfits set out before I got there), Renee also has a great sense of style, both of which are essential for styling or fashion buying, which is what she wants to do when she gets "into the real world" as she describes it. Renee's style is classic cut with quirky, whimsical, almost rebellious little twists like the bone necklace in the first outfit, the round, heavily printed sunglasses (which her boyfriend hates but she still wears...got to love that!), the acid yellow necklace wrapped around her wrist. She finds inspiration in vintage books and magazines, and from her mum who has a fantastic design aesthetic as well (as evidenced by the stack of magazines on their coffee table).

So where were Renee's outfits from?

Beige jacket and leather shorts: All about Eve , pale blue button-up shirt: Vintage Susan, bone necklace:: Shappere, shoes: Kinki Gerlinki, sunglasses: Ison

Sleeveless fruity top: Gorman, camel skirt: American Apparel

Red tank top: Sportsgirl , black jeans: Cheap Monday

Black shirt: All about Eve, black jeans: Cheap Monday, yellow necklace (worn around wrist): Escapulario.

Many thanks to Renee's agent, Viviens, in Melbourne.

Weekend Life....This is Australia

Weekend Life....Australia Day Special!

It is Australia Day on 26th January (hurrah!), and Kate from I Am Not A Celebrity asked whether I would give a little interview and share some photos for a series she is doing this week on Aussies living in the UK. I pulled some of my photos from my trip back home last year to Australia for her, and thought I would share them on my blog as well. They were taken in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Noosa and I guess are a (small) insight into Aussie life through my eyes/camera lens. I still intend to do a post on each place, sharing some of my favourite places to shop, eat and drink coffee but with fashion month approaching, I am not sure I will have time to do that for a little while. So think of this as an amuse bouche to limber up your appetite for more Aussie photos :)

p.s.I am continually grateful to every single person who allows me to take their photo, stranger or not. It makes me happy that people trust me enough to let me make a photo of them.....and that applies especially to people wearing swimsuits!

I hope you enjoy this little glimpse of Australia just like Oprah did in this clip (joined by Hugh, Keith, Nicole, Russell and Olivia at the Sydney Opera House). I admit I had a little "moment" when I watched the video the other night....twice :)

So whether you are celebrating Australia Day in Queenland, NSW, ACT, Victoria, NT, South Australia, Western Australia, Tassie or around the world, at the beach, watching the cricket, firing up the barbie, sheltering from the rain (Queenslanders), munching on lamingtons, pavlova, Anzac bikkies and mini meat pies, knocking back a few beers, Happy Australia Day for tomorrow!
I still call Australia home for sure.

p.s. If you are in London this week, Taylor St Baristas are doing a flattie (flat white) and lamo (lamington) special this week for Australia Day.
